From their early success as the wealthiest Maori tribe in New Zealand to the blanket of mud and ash that took it all away.
Join our local guides and learn about the trials and tribulations of Tuhourangi as we share our stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. We travel through the remains of Te Wairoa, the village where the people of Tuhourangi once lived and operated from. The trip to Te Wairoa journeys around some of Rotorua’s most beautiful lakes of Tikitapu, Rotokakahi and Tarawera.
After Te Wairoa, we travel to the Maori village of Whakarewarewa where the descendants of these survivors live today with their sibling tribe, Ngati Wahiao. Together these tribes carry on the professional guiding tradition of sharing our culture and Taonga (treasures) with the world.
